The Perfect Cup of Cinnamon Cocoa…

bigstock-Cocoa-beans-cocoa-powder-and--53640778 As the nights get cooler, we are all looking for a warm drink to soothe and relax; perhaps a great cup of cinnamon cocoa.Making cocoa from scratch is a healthier alternative to premixed powders.  The hot chocolate you get from coffee shops is full of additives, fillers and unhealthy sugars (like high fructose corn syrup).

When you make cocoa at home, you can choose quality ingredients like organic milk and 100% pure, organic, fair-trade cocoa powder.  You can also add cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg for some flavoring.  But most importantly you can control how much you sweeten it and choose good quality natural sweeteners like maple syrup and unpasteurized honey.

This week I made a delicious Cinnamon Cocoa that I have named Cinnamon Cocoa Soother.

Here is the step-by-step recipe:

CINNAMON COCOA SOOTHER

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 2 tsp. Organic Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • 2 cups of milk (preferably organic)
  • Maple syrup or honey to taste

HOW YOU MAKE ITStep 1: Pour milk into a small saucepan and add cocoa and cinnamon.Step 2:Heat slowly over medium-low (I used level 3) for about 5 minutes until milk is steaming, but not boiling.  Make sure to stir constantly.
Step 3: Pour into cups and add maple syrup or honey.  Top with ground nutmeg.  For an extra fancy cup, froth or steam some milk and top with foam.

  1. I would like to know if you order in fresh cornish hens, and if so, around how much a pound? I am thinking for Christmas! Thanks!

  2. Hi Karen,
I have tried for years to get fresh cornish hens… I am sorry. I can only get frozen.
