New Year’s Reflections

Happy New Year everyone! I took a little break from Power Up Blogs for some personal development, so I wanted to share what I’ve been reflecting on and hopefully encourage you to do the same.

As we closed in on 2019, I decided I wanted to take a different approach to the new year. In the past, I really put emphasis on having a fresh slate the what greatness the new year brings. I would get all caught up in resolutions and what I wanted to change. What I realized is that without reflecting on the year that had passed and the areas for improvement, it made the follow through quite challenging.

I realize that new year reflection usually takes place at the beginning of January. However, since we just passed the so called “Blue Monday”, I couldn’t think of a better time to do some reflecting when the excitement and momentum of the new year has simmered down a bit.

This year I asked myself some questions to reflect on. There is questions online to prompt your thought process, but these are the ones that I found resonated with me the most.

1.     In what way(s) did you grow spiritually/physically/emotionally?

A loaded question but an important one. Maybe you started yoga, journaling, meditation, etc., these are all areas for growth.

2.     Who needs to be acknowledged?

Who were your most valuable relationships with? Or maybe you cut ties with a toxic relationship. Think about the people who impacted your year and how they impacted it.

3.     What was an unexpected challenge or obstacle?

For me this was a tough one as I experienced something totally unexpected and heartbreaking, but I truly found a sense of strength I never knew existed within me.

4.     What was your single biggest time waster in your life this past year?

I loved this question. I definitely needed to reflect on my use of time. Maybe you spend too much time with an energy vampire, or too much screen time. Either way, it’s important to reflect on your use of time and how to better it. Also, to recognize how your time was BEST used in the past year.

Wishing everyone a wonderful 2020!
