President John F. Kennedy once said, “To whom much is given, much is required.”
His statement has never rung more true than during this pandemic.
Nine months ago, who could have envisioned the prolonged business closures, job losses, and many, many restrictions? And the collateral damage from all of the above…
Fortunately Canadians, from all walks of life, have risen to the challenge.
This includes businesses – particularly those who are in a position to help. Vince’s has had a long history of corporate philanthropy, and are thankfully still able to make a positive difference in the communities we serve.
We recently wrapped up our S.O.S. Food Drive. With matching funds from Vince’s, we raised $12,000 for four local shelters. This comes at a time when they are facing unrelenting pressure from individuals and families who have either become homeless, or are at risk of becoming homeless.
Similar demands are being felt by other organizations, like the recipient of our Community Product Initiative.
Since 1977, the Women’s Centre of York Region (WCYR) has been offering programs and services to women wanting to make positive changes in their lives. WCYR offers a safe place to grow their self-esteem, find the tools to develop a plan of action, and build the required skills to help themselves and their families.
These essential services, however, are being further challenged by the pandemic. With domestic abuse on the rise, WCYR is becoming overwhelmed by these urgent family crises.
Fortunately Vince’s customers are responding positively by purchasing our Community Products – and so far raising $17,616 to support the WCYR’s life-changing work.
Thanks as well to our 2020 vendors, who have been instrumental to the success of this program. These companies include Italpasta, Maple Leaf Foods, Coca Cola, Saputo, and Arla Foods.
Arla is providing our current Community Product, Castello Cheese. We are offering a selection of their aged cheeses: Havarti, Gouda, Extra Mature and Mature Cheddars. These are sophisticated and delicious, and will be a nice addition to your holiday charcuterie boards. Please visit vincesmarket.ca for more information on our current Community Product, or check it out in our online flyer.
“In three years, the Community Product Initiative will have contributed close to $60,000 in supporting local groups who are doing valuable work,” said Vince’s partner Giancarlo Trimarchi. “We couldn’t do it without the support of our partner vendors – and our customers – who are helping the WCYR continue to empower women across the region.”
