Town of East Gwillimbury Approves Vince’s Market Sharon Re-Development

Sharon, ON, January 21, 2016

On Tuesday evening in East Gwillimbury at Town Council, the recommendation that was made earlier in the day to amend the Official Plan and Zoning By-Law to allow for the redevelopment of the Vince’s Market Plaza in Sharon was unanimously passed by the Committee of the Whole.

This two-year process saw strong public consultation/engagement through an open consultation process with residents and neighbours.

It was staff’s recommendation to approve the application, built upon meeting the Town’s Official Plan to ensure balanced growth, in supporting residents’ everyday needs by providing retail and commercial uses within local centres.

“I am very pleased with the positive outcome”, noted Carmen Trimarchi. “When I began here in 1986 taking over from the Vince family, it was with future growth in mind. Hopefully now residents will also have an opportunity to satisfy their banking needs, and other such retail expectations, without having to leave town.”

The re-development of the site includes a completely brand new Vince’s location built from the ground up, that will continue to focus on fresh departments, as well as having the new zoning to allow for banks, retail, service and personal service shops. Vince’s Sharon location will remain open and serving the public during renovations.

While this stage is now finalized, Site Plan Approval along with issuing building permits will complete the process. “We are looking forward to having the new community plaza completed in order to serve the residents, toward the end of 2017”, cited Trimarchi.
