Cooking Up Connection: Vince’s Launches Pilot Program for Dementia Caregivers

Maria with Alzheimers Team and Chef Bev together cooking up connection

Earlier this month, Vince’s took a meaningful step toward supporting caregivers of those living with dementia by partnering with the Alzheimer Societies of York Region and Simcoe County on a new pilot program. Held in our Sharon location’s Community Room, the Let’s Get Cooking workshop brought together caregivers for an afternoon of nutrition, wellness, and social connection – hosted by none other than Chef Bev MacDonald, who informed, inspired, and entertained all who attended.

This unique event was more than just a cooking class. It’s part of a growing effort to help caregivers – who are often under immense physical and emotional strain – find moments of relief, connection, and support.

“Alzheimer societies work to keep caregivers socially engaged in their communities and connected with one another,” said Jaime Cruz, Public Education and Community Programs Manager with the Alzheimer Society of York Region. “Our sincere thanks to Maria Ciarlandini and the team at Vince’s Market and Chef Bev MacDonald for partnering with Alzheimer societies in York Region and Simcoe to make this opportunity possible.”

Through delicious, nutritious food and shared experiences, this pilot program addressed the often-overlooked needs of caregivers – helping them feel seen, supported, and recharged. That’s a big win for the families, friends, and neighbours at the heart of our communities.

“Through Vince’s Community Product Initiative (VCPI), we have experienced first-hand the exceptional leadership and community commitment of Vince’s,” added Ann-Marie Kungl, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County. “Thank you to the whole team for choosing to take on a powerful role in advancing the well-being of caregivers in our communities. These are cherished family members, friends, and neighbours.”

Indeed, this initiative reflects what the Vince’s Community Product Initiative is all about: finding local, impactful ways to give back. Proceeds from this year’s VCPI are being directed specifically toward education and support programs for caregivers – making this workshop a perfect fit.

“Vince’s was proud to have the first ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ program event at the Sharon Community Room,” said Maria Ciarlandini. “Together with the Alzheimer Society of York Region and Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County, the care partners who attended had a great experience learning new recipes.”

We’re hopeful this is just the beginning. Based on the success of the pilot, Vince’s looks forward to expanding this program across the organization – because supporting caregivers is a recipe we believe in.
