In last week’s newsletter, we announced that our Community Support Ambassador, Maria Ciarlandini, was named a finalist in the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce and NewRoads Automotive Group Women of Excellence Awards.
Since then, we have celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8th, and a day later, the annual Women of Excellence Awards was held virtually for the first time.
We are pleased to announce that Maria was chosen as winner of this prestigious award.
Nominations came from the public, and selections were made by an awards committee that included several past recipients. Maria was up against three other finalists: Ann Watson, executive director of Inn From the Cold, Deborah Kelly, community editor of NewmarketToday, and Juliane Goyette of HollisWealth.
All are influential women in the community, and share a spirit of giving that spans many years. We are pleased that Maria was chosen from among such an accomplished and respected field.
Maria had a long history of giving back to the community prior to joining Vince’s. And since coming on board as our Community Support Ambassador, she has been a connector, an organizer, and a driver in getting Vince’s involved with many worthwhile causes. Some of these include Random Acts of Vince’s, the S.O.S. (Support our Shelters) campaign, NewRoads Girls Night Out, Cedar Centre Gala, and Big Bike for Heart & Stroke. She has also danced in the annual Dancing with the Easter Seals Stars, has curled to raise money for the Newmarket Food Pantry, and has led our team numerous times in the preparing and serving of meals at Inn from the Cold.
NewRoads and the Newmarket Chamber host this event to honour the achievements of local women, while celebrating the important strides that have been made towards gender equality. Proceeds from ticket sales support the Women’s Centre of York Region.
