Donate a toonie and help fill a hungry tummy!

You’ve probably been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and whether or not you agree, hunger is a distraction. Especially for school kids who need fuel for learning – and, ultimately, to succeed in their education.

“Vince’s is proud to be supporting, once again, the Grocery Foundation’s Toonies for Tummies campaign,” said Maria Ciarlandini, Vince’s Community Support Ambassador. “Since I began my role here, this campaign has been an annual staple that we believe, as Team Vince’s, makes a positive difference in our communities. It is vital that these children have a nutritious meal to help start their day. Happiness and nutrition go hand in hand.”

Vince’s is one of nearly 1,400 grocery retailers across the country to participate in the 2022 Toonies for Tummies (TFT) campaign. This yearly initiative has raised more than $25 million since 2000, and has set a goal of $4 million for 2022.

Starting today (February 10th), we are asking customers to purchase the brands who are supporting this campaign. You can find TFT items flagged throughout our aisles, or check the Toonies for Tummies page in our online flyer. These products will be featured until February 23rd.

Last year, students and schools were in desperate need of help, and with the efforts of all the participating retailers (and their customers), the campaign raised over $3.5M. 100 percent of these donations were deployed to hungry children who returned to school this fall.

In 2021, experts warned that the number of hungry children stood to double – and that appears to have been the case. It’s believed that as many as 1 in 3 children are now at risk of going to school on an empty stomach. It has also been confirmed, through one of the country’s largest mental health studies, that food insecurity is directly tied to the serious mental health challenges that students face. All of which emphasizes the fact that every toonie counts!

So while you are checking out your groceries, please donate a toonie at the cash. Alternatively, if you’d like to make a larger donation, please visit The Grocery Foundation’s secure website: groceryfoundation.com. Customers who donate $25 or more online will receive a tax receipt.

TFT funds remain in the local community, and The Grocery Foundation directs 100 percent of Ontario donations to approved programs through partnerships with Student Nutrition Ontario.

You’ll see Toonies for Tummies reflected in our current advertising, and we ask you to please support this life-changing program. If you’d like to know more, visit groceryfoundation.com (for info on the national program) or stay tuned and we’ll share our results after the campaign ends.

Thank you for your generosity!
