Father’s Day is this Sunday, and what better way to celebrate than with the perfect pairing of local craft beer and delicious grilled fare? While dads often take over the grill, they also appreciate it when someone else steps up. So, let’s give Dad a break and treat him to an unforgettable meal featuring local craft beers from Old Flame Brewery and some top picks from our current Vince’s flyer.
Craft Beers to Impress Dad
Start the celebration with Old Flame Brewery’s Hazy Blonde, an unfiltered Helles Lager. This beer pours a hazy, pale straw colour with a persistent white head. Known as Kellerbier, or “cellar beer,” it boasts a yeast-driven aroma with notes of straw and hints of citrus. Light and easy to drink, it’s satisfying for both casual and seasoned beer lovers. Don’t worry about sediment in the bottle; it’s a sign of the fresh, unfiltered brewing process.
Next up is the Red Vienna Lager, a tribute to the classic Austrian Vienna style. This clear, rust-coloured brew has a toasty and biscuity aroma, reminiscent of whole grain bread. Brewed with caramel malt, it offers a touch of sweetness and complexity, balanced by a slight hop bitterness for a smooth finish. Not sure if Dad prefers ale or lager? This one has you covered.
For those who appreciate depth and richness, the Brunette Munich Dunkel is a must-try. Dunkel, meaning “dark” in German, features a variety of dark malts that give it an elegant aroma of toasted bread crusts, light chocolate, and toffee. This dark mahogany beer (with creamy head) has flavours of subtle caramel, toast, and nuttiness, finishing smooth and dry. Despite its complexity, it remains light and easy to drink.
Grill Up Some Favourites
Complement these craft beers with some grilled items from our meat and seafood department. First on the list is the classic striploin steak. Known for its tenderness and robust flavour, this cut is perfect for celebrating Dad. Simply season with salt and pepper, and let the grill do its magic. There are as many opinions on what goes well with striploin as there are beer (and steak) enthusiasts. But you can try pairing this well-marbled beauty with a rich glass of the Munich Dunkel, and wait for the smile.
If you’re in the mood for something different, try Marcangelo chicken shawarma. These marinated chicken pieces are packed with flavour and easy to grill. Serve them with warm pita bread, fresh veggies, and some Vince’s Own tzatziki sauce. The Red Vienna Lager’s balanced sweetness and slight bitterness should stand up nicely to the spices of the shawarma.
For something a little posher, add lobster tails to your Father’s Day feast. Grilled lobster tails don’t have to be fussy, just brush them with garlic butter and grill until they’re perfectly tender. The richness of the lobster may work nicely with the light, bready notes of the Hazy Blonde.
Hopefully, these suggestions will spark a few ideas for your Father’s Day celebration. With an array of local craft beers and some great grilling options, you can create a meal that’s as memorable as it is delicious. So fire up the grill, and raise a glass to Dad.
Happy Father’s Day!
