Holy Shish-Kabob, It’s Time to Get Grillin’!
With spring slowly making its way across the nation, the weather is starting to heat up. And with that the tantalizing smells of the BBQ won’t be long in coming too. Vince’s Market has what you need to make every moment of your BBQing season a hit with your friends and family. But before we get to that, let’s start off with a few tips for getting the most out of your BBQ this grilling season.
Gas vs. Charcoal
The age-old debate over which grilling method is better involves a multiple of variables, from flavor to cost to convenience. And while no studies prove that either is healthier, gas does burn cleaner as charcoal grills emit more carbon monoxide, particulate matter, and soot into the atmosphere than a propane or natural gas model. From a taste perspective, on the other hand, many people prefer the smokier, richer taste of food cooked on a charcoal grill.
Pre-Heating: Make Sure It’s Hot!
Turning your BBQ on 15 to 25 minutes before you want to start grilling, makes sure it reaches the proper temperature and kills any bacteria that may be lingering on your grille. A properly heated grille sears foods on contact, keeps the inside moist, and helps prevent sticking. While searing doesn’t actually seal in the juices, contrary to popular opinion, it does create improved flavors through caramelization. And who doesn’t love a little caramelization?!
Cleanliness is Important!
As we mentioned before, the high of your warm-up period should help to kill any bacteria lingering on your grille, it’s a good idea to clean it once it’s hot. Just use a long-handled wire brush to clean off charred debris from prior meals. Don’t forget to scrape immediately after use as well!
Oil It Up!
Even on a clean grille, lean foods may stick when placed directly on the rack. You can reduce sticking by oiling the grille rack on your BBQ with a vegetable oil-soaked paper towel. Just hold it with tongs and rub it over the entire surface. Whatever you do, please don’t use cooking spray on a hot grille — Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!
Marinades Are Superb!
Marinating your meat and vegetables infuses your food with flavor! And flavour is good! As a quick rule, reserve some of your marinade for basting on the grill or boil any left-over marinade after removing the meat of your choice before using as a basting liquid.
If you’ve not got the time to marinate your meat, stop in at any of our locations and select one of the many options we have already prepared. Not only have we taken the guess work out of finding fantastic flavours, but we’ve also taken the time to slowly marinate our offerings for the best levels of flavour. From kabobs to souvlaki to flattened chickens to sausages, the choices are endless! Even our 100% beef burgers come in a variety of flavours for you to choose from—and they’re made fresh daily at each store!
Rest, Rest, Rest!
The secret to succulent steaks, tender chops, or the moistest meat of our choosing is rest! Let finished meats chill out on a clean plate, tented with foil, for about 10 minutes before carving so juices can redistribute evenly. Trust us, it makes a difference!
