Never fail, we have you covered with fun, healthy ideas that will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.

Nut Butters – Put Them on Everything!

Peanut butter is a great option so long as your little one has no allergies. The great news is there are tons of options for nut butters and even nut-free butters that work just as well with these healthy snack ideas for March Break.

Ants on a Log

First up is a favourite from my own childhood (and I admit, I even eat them now when I’m looking for a little nostalgia): Ants on a Log. The recipe is simple and kid-friendly should they want to help—all you need is celery and your favourite peanut, nut, or nut-free butter, spread it into the cavity. Then top with raisins—those are the ants—and you’re all set!

Nut Butter, Jam & Banana Roll-Ups with Apple Cookies

Other great options are Nut Butter, Jam, and Banana Roll-Ups with Apple “Cookies”. Never heard of apple cookies? They’re simple to make and kids love them! Just take apple slices, spread with your chosen nut or nut-free butter, and top with chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, or granola. Delicious and nutritious, these are more satisfying than traditional cookies.

Cheese & Grape Flowers

Cheese is a great option for kiddos as well—it tastes great and as a source of protein, it’ll keep your little ones fuller, longer. You know what kinds of cheese your family likes best, so choose those flavours and cut into fun shapes to pair with crackers. It’s a staple snack that many a young, and old, kid love!

If you’re feeling a little adventurous, you can make cheese and grape flowers, using the cheese as the petals and the grapes as the flower’s center—with eating having a visual component, making your snacks look interesting and inviting will have them digging right in! Grilled cheese sandwiches are a quick and nutritious snack as well if you’re in a pinch for something quick and easy.

When in Doubt – Fresh Fruits, Veggies and Dips

Having fresh fruits and vegetables on hand is going to make sure that you have healthy options at a moment’s notice. Take the time to cut them into snack sized pieces and keep dip or hummus on hand for wholesome munchies. Setting yourself up for success is the key to providing your little ones with healthy finger foods!
