When you entertain for the holidays, whether you are celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah or Festivus, you can try making your favorite recipes with a healthy twist. Try this horseradish mashed potato recipe – a great way to give a healthy boost to an old-time favorite.Horseradish Facts

Did you know that horseradish is not actually a radish?  It is a perennial plant that is in the Brassica family along with broccoli, mustard and cabbage, but it got its name because it could be substituted for radish in recipes. Horseradish varieties are used widely across many cultures from Eastern Europe, to the Wasabi in Japanese food.

Traditionally the root has been used to fight colds and clear the sinuses.  If you have ever experienced eating strong horseradish, you are familiar with the sensation it gives you in your nose.  Horseradish contains potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous and is also high in vitamin C.
