The 2022 Beijing Olympics have just begun, and for the next 16 days, there will be non-stop winter sports from bobsleigh to curling to alpine skiing. But wait, there’s still more. Roughly halfway through – on February 13 – we have Superbowl 56.
So for diehard fans, this means you’ll be watching a little more TV than usual. Even my wife, who isn’t typically drawn to sports, will be glued to the screen for at least some of the Olympic events, like figure skating and women’s hockey. I’ll be watching the latter as well, with high hopes for a gold.
All the being said, this cornucopia of televised sport has increased snacking opportunities.
If you’re like me and are inspired by world-class athletes competing with the best in their field, greasy/salty/highly processed munchies won’t do. I may not be getting ready for that level of competition, but that’s no excuse to settle for anything less than premium fuel.
Which is why healthy platters are my go-to for this kind of binge-watching.
In our stores, we carry a variety of pre-made veggie, fruit, and combination platters (ie. vegetable and pumpernickel with spinach dip, mixed fruits, veggies and dip) – and these are a huge time saver. I have no love for cleaning, cutting and prepping produce, so if that’s already been done, I’m buying.
It’s no secret that food tastes better when someone else makes it.
On that note, Vince’s dedicated platter team also offers larger, made-to-order platters, with more diverse choices. These are ideal if you invite a few friends and family for a COVID-safe gathering.
One popular choice is meat and cheese cubed platter, which includes a selection of cubed turkey kielbasa, ham, Polish sausage, cheddar, marble, and Havarti. And to build on such an assortment, our Antipasto Platter adds roasted red peppers, olives, bocconcini, and marinated items like eggplant, sundried tomatoes, artichokes, and mushrooms.
If you want something even more substantial, a sandwich or wrap platter may be just the ticket. These can incorporate a variety of meats, cheeses, and vegetarian options.
One popular choice is the “Sandwiches on Assorted Bagels & Buns Platter,” featuring egg salad, tuna, roast beef, ham, corned beef, and turkey. Or our vegetarian wrap platter – a combo of cheddar cheese, cucumber, shredded carrots, hummus, spring mix, cream cheese, and alfalfa.
Okay, this may not qualify as a “healthy” option, but who doesn’t enjoy a cookie or dessert platter? With coffee (or tea) in hand, it’s hard to resist an assortment of sweet treats.
Platters aren’t just convenient (and cost-effective), they’re an eye-catching alternative to the do-it-yourself jumble of mismatched potluck containers and prepackaged desserts. Vince’s is known for our platter presentation, handcrafted by our dedicated team, and made fresh to order.
Find out more by shopping online here – just be sure to give the platter team at least 24 hours notice. You can pick up at any of our stores, or have your platters delivered. Delivery is free for orders over $250.
So, let’s raise a carrot stick (or broccoli floret), and cheer our Canadian athletes – and your Superbowl favourite – on to victory!
