Yellow Lentils (Daal)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dal (yellow moong), rinsed
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½  tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp  red chili powder (adjust to your spice level)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cups of water
  • 2 tbsp cilantro chopped for garnish, optional
  • 1 tsp of fresh lime juice, optional

Method

  1. Add all the ingredients in a pot (except for the garnishes) and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low-medium and let simmer for about an hour, or until dal is cooked and soft.
  3. Remove from heat and garnish with the optional cilantro and lime juice.
