Our Top 8 Toppings for National Vanilla Ice Cream Day!

national vanilla ice cream dayGet your spoons ready, Sunday July 23rd is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day! I’m not sure who the genius is who invents these days, and typically I am skeptical of the necessity of them, but this one I totally get.  I’m a plain Jane kind of guy. And you guessed it, my favorite flavour of ice cream is classic vanilla.

Typically, I wouldn’t top the ice cream with anything fancy, maybe just a side of fruit. But for National Vanilla Ice Cream Day I get the sense the founder of the day would expect participants to really get creative. Just thinking of all the toppings makes my mouth water, but here are my favourites.

Our Top 8 Vanilla Ice Cream Toppings:

  • Fruit
  • Nuts
  • Chocolate Sauce
  • Sprinkles
  • Skor Bits
  • Nutella
  • Oreo Cookie Crumbs
  • Granola

Now that we’ve decided the toppings for consideration the most important part of planning for the celebration of this day is choosing the right kind of ice cream.

Dairy-Free Vanilla “Ice Cream”

We’re not leaving anyone out! For those who choose the dairy-free route, the healthier coconut or soy ‘ice creams’ leave your bowl open to choosing more decadent toppings.  Opt for some fruit, nuts and even gluten free granola.

Thick and Creamy Dairy Ice Cream

For those who do embrace dairy, I think I would pick the ice cream with the highest content of cream to really get that authentic and most traditional sense of what National Vanilla Ice Cream Day stands for.  If you’re having a get together on Sunday, why not put out a Vanilla Ice Cream Sundae Bar and let your guests choose their own toppings? Yum!
