VINCE’S SUPPORTS HEALTH CARE IN KENYA: DONATION TO THE SMALL PROJECT FUNDS ‘MOBILE CAMEL CLINIC’

Daily living for those living in the remote areas of Northern and Central Kenya can be a challenge – in particular when it comes to medical care. Roads are either non-existent or impassable, and the people are mostly semi-nomadic herders who lack access to government-run health-care facilities.

Which is why Vince’s Market is proud to support The Small Project – an organization that helps to bring medical practitioners to the people. Using a mobile camel clinic, they travel for a month at a time, from location to location, delivering a range of interventions including basic curative care, testing for diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB, immunization of children, and the
provision of family planning. One of the clinic’s primary goals is to give women
the chance to control their own reproductive health. Fewer children and more widely spaced births means better health and economic outcomes for families.

Vince’s was the lead donor for a camel clinic that operated in remote parts of northern Laikipia County in central Kenya from mid-January to mid-February. During this period, the clinic served over 2400 clients, and nearly 600 women opted for long term (3 to 5 year) contraception. Approximately 150 more opted for a 3 to 5 month injection. Dozens were tested for HIV, malaria, and TB, and almost 200 infants were immunized.
