As the year wraps up, it’s a nice time for reflection and gratitude. We’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges many families have faced this year, especially in terms of affordability. Yet, amidst these struggles, we’re reminded of the resilience and strength found in our community – in particular by those who are making a positive difference for those in need.
At Vince’s, we are no stranger to community giving, and continue to support many local causes. Key among them is our “Community Product Initiative” (CPI), which has raised more than $130K since 2018 for a variety of lifechanging organizations. Community & Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS) has been our 2023 recipient, and we look forward to announcing the results of our yearlong campaign early in January.
Our 2024 CPI recipient will be Toonies for Tummies, a Grocery Foundation initiative that provides school children with access to healthy foods, knowledge about nutrition, and a proper start to the day. Last year, Vince’s customers, with the help of a $1,000 donation from Coca Cola Bottling, raised a total of $7,600 during a two-week campaign to help provide meals for local children who otherwise are at risk of going to school on an empty stomach. We have raised more than $31K for TFT over the past eight years, and expect to see some big numbers with an entire year to focus on the 2024 program.
In addition to our Food Pantry bags – which has been an ongoing program at our stores – we are proud to be part of Newmarket Food Pantry’s Food Rescue program. As part of the organization’s broader efforts to support vulnerable individuals and families, this program redistributes food that is still good, but nearing its “best before” date. Over the course of a few months, thousands of pounds of safe, delicious, and wholesome food has found its way from our stores to those who need it most.
Indeed, it is during these times that we realize the importance of community. These past few years have taught us the value of adaptability and kindness. We’ve seen neighbours helping neighbours, strangers extending a hand, and a collective spirit that keeps us hopeful for the future.
From our family to yours, we wish you a season filled with peace, joy, and hope. Let’s cherish these moments and look forward to brighter days ahead. Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year to all.
